From a conceptual standpoint, there are three types of administrators. You do not have to indicate to the EnterYourHours.com System which type of administrator you are. The system is configured to work equally well for all three. One of type of administrator does not bill hours, and only manages the billing for the company. This guide will refer to that type of an administrator as a non-billing administrator. While this administrator will show a negative or positive balance of hours if he or she performs any adjustments, they can be ignored for the purposes of billing clients and paying workers (although your finance department might want to use it for reconciliation). If you plan on using the EnterYourHours.com System’s powerful adjustments feature, we recommend creating at least one non-billing administrator account that will handle negative adjustments. For more information see the Adjustments topic. As you might have guessed, another type of administrator also bills hours. This type of administrator is often associated with small to medium sized businesses, but can really exist in any type of business. Perhaps there is one particular partner in a law firm who also has a CPA and handles the books, or perhaps an owner of a large consulting firm, whose own hours are still in high demand, feels the most comfortable with complete control over the hours his company bills. This guide will refer to that type of an administrator as a billing administrator. Finally, there are individual users of the EnterYourHours.com System. If you are a consultant or a sole proprietor of a business, than you fall into this category. Since you are the only worker listed in the system, you won’t need to worry about tracking multiple workers, or using the advanced adjustment feature (you can simply edit your own records to get the hours right). In practice you will use the system much like a billing administrator, but there are several topics where it will be important to understand how the system affects an individual user. In those instances, this guide will refer to this type of an administrator as an individual administrator. |
